As I reflect on the 23-year journey of Jacki Arena Interiors (JAI), I am overwhelmed with gratitude and pride. It is difficult to believe more than two decades have passed since I first embarked on this adventure, fueled by passion and a vision to create spaces that tell a story and leave a lasting impact on all who experience them. The journey has been one of growth, learning, and constant evolution, and today, I want to take you through some of the key milestones that have shaped JAI into what it is today
When I founded Jacki Arena Interiors in 2001, it was a small, humble venture born out of my love for design and a desire to make a difference through creative expression. The early days were challenging, but they were also filled with excitement and endless possibilities.
Drawing on my former experience at the Boca Raton Resort and Club, creating prototypes for the start-up Extended Stay America, and designing luxury Sandals Resorts in the Caribbean, I channeled these diverse experiences into crafting unique, custom designs for branded hotels to help developers and franchisees stand out in a competitive market. My first project was converting four warehouses into a Courtyard by Marriott convention hotel in downtown Pittsburgh.
A Decade of Growth: Expanding Our Horizons
As the years passed, JAI began to grow, both in terms of the size of our team and the scale of our projects. We moved from custom designed select service hotels to full service and luxury boutique projects that allowed us to push the boundaries of our creativity. A milestone that stands out during this period was our work on Hotel Flor and The Dan restaurant, a historic renovation project right here in Tampa Bay. This project was particularly special as it involved breathing new life into a beloved local iconic landmark. Our design team was challenged to preserve the historic charm while infusing modern elements, resulting in a beautifully renovated property that the locals could once again share and love. This project not only highlighted our commitment to excellence but also deepened our connection to the community we serve.
Innovation and Evolution: Adapting to Change
One of the most significant aspects of JAI’s journey has been the ability to adapt and evolve. The world of design is ever-changing, and staying relevant requires continuous learning and innovation. Over the years, we have embraced new technologies, sustainable practices, and innovative design techniques. Most recently, we have integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into our design process, using it to enhance creativity, streamline workflows, and deliver more personalized experiences for our clients.
The Power of Perseverance: Lessons Learned from 23 Years in Business
Operating a business for over two decades is no small feat. It takes perseverance, resilience, and a deep-seated belief in your vision. Throughout the years, there have been challenges—economic downturns, evolving market trends, and the constant pressure to stay ahead of the curve. However, each challenge has provided an opportunity for growth, teaching us the importance of adaptability, patience, and most importantly, perseverance
Overcoming Challenges: A Story of Resilience
Over the years, JAI has navigated the challenges of 9/11, the 2008 recession, and the recent pandemic—each testing our resilience in ways we never imagined. In the face of delayed projects, budget cuts, increased construction costs and overwhelming uncertainty, we pressed forward. We tightened our belts, stayed true to our commitment to quality, and deepened our relationships with clients. These challenges didn’t just test us; they strengthened us, teaching us the true meaning of resilience and fueling our determination to succeed, no matter what comes our way.
Staying Motivated: The Drive to Keep Going
What sustains a business for 23 years? For me, it is the unwavering passion to transform visions into designs that leave a lasting impact on all who experience them. It is the relationships I have nurtured with clients and industry professionals, many of whom have been with me from the very beginning. It is the fulfillment of collaborating with and mentoring a talented team that shares the same commitment and vision. But above all, it is the deep belief that every project, no matter its size, holds the potential to make a profound difference in someone’s life.
Determination and Vision: The Keys to Longevity
Reflecting on the journey, I realize one of the key factors to JAI’s longevity has been my unwavering determination to stay true to our vision. There were moments of doubt, times when it would have been easier to compromise our values, but we chose to persevere. This determination has been one of our guiding principles, leading us through the highs and lows and helping us to remain a name that stands for excellence and integrity.
