JAI recently had the incredible opportunity to attend Coverings 2023, the premier global tile and stone industry event. Held in the vibrant city of Orlando, FL, this four-day extravaganza hosts massive displays showcasing an impressive array of large installations, each boasting unique patterns, textures, and finishes that will shape the hospitality design industry in the coming years. Team JAI left Coverings creatively inspired and recharged from two days of visual inspiration, networking, and team building.

What Caught Our Eye

Florals & Geometrics:  Florals are everywhere in the tile world right now, pairing effortlessly with geometrics for the ultimate balance.

Botanicals & Slats: These elements blend seamlessly, creating the biophilic / wellness aesthetic we all crave.

Mixing Textures: Keeping it light while mixing textures and blending materials can never go wrong.

Three-Dimensional: These 3D blocks are popping up all over and work exceptionally well for dividing spacings.

Terracotta: The old world becomes new, mixing marble and stone with the classic terracotta.

Terrazzo: Terrazzo continues to reinvent itself in new patterns and uses.

Saturated Pastels: Boldly saturated pastels are great for spring in warm and cool palettes.

Vintage: Bold colors paired with vintage postcard-type graphics bring interest to any space.

Whimsey: Lots of black and white fun, along with artistic, themed tiles, create that unique space people will remember.

One central theme that stood out was sustainability. The hospitality industry is increasingly embracing eco-friendly practices, and tile and stone manufacturers are responding by offering an extensive range of sustainable options. From recycled materials to energy-efficient manufacturing processes, it was exciting to see the industry’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

A Memorable Moment

In honor of National Rescue Dog Day, several tiled dog houses were designed, built, and donated to Florida Little Dog Rescue. And where there are dog houses, there are puppies! Naturally, those sweet faces drew everyone together, opening the door to fun conversations and networking opportunities while bringing awareness to a great local and national cause.

A Time of Inspiration

As I reflect on our time at Coverings 2023, I’m reminded of the immense power of collaboration and its role in shaping the future of hospitality design. The event showcased the limitless possibilities and untapped potential of the tile and stone industry, igniting a renewed passion within myself and my team to push boundaries and create unforgettable experiences for hotel guests.
